  • david wrote a new blog post: Geocoding addresses using Google Maps and Google Docs   2 weeks, 6 days ago · View

Google docs just turned the corner for me, from being ‘a convenient trimmed down online version’ to being ‘an innovative online version packed with features’.  I am quite impressed, and hope this is the first of many enhancements to come that make life (and the world) that much easier. Backstory: I am having a wedding [...]

Thumbnail I was renting a car the other weekend, and was informed that I would need to bring proof of my UK address. I brought a letter from my bank… but as a joke, I also printed out a screen shot from Google Maps (satellite view) of my house in London… It showed the address on [...]

I have a morbid interest in all things North Korea. It is a cult, in the saddest of senses. It is a nation engaged in blackmail. It is a nation lost. It is 9:00pm GMT on Friday, February 10th… and the Chinese twitter-verse is all a flutter over rumors that Kim Jung Un has been [...]

  • david wrote a new blog post: Snowy day in London   3 months, 3 weeks ago · View

The first snowy day is upon us… and it is bound to be a cold one as well.f Just a few flakes so far. Nothing sticking. Moby looks cute with a couple of ice crystals stuck to him. I reached out to a recruitment firm today and made personal contact – and it was worthwhile. [...]

Moby has hit the 4 month mark, and I thought I would capture his details. Height at the withers: 9 3/4 inches – 24.5 cm Weight: 2.75 kg – 6 pounds It is hard to find any sort of lookup charts to track his size. He is a maltese / poodle cross, and there is [...]

  • david wrote a new blog post: Moby’s first week. (Now 16 weeks old)   4 months, 2 weeks ago · View

Thumbnail It has been an incredible first week. Potty training is coming along quite nicely. We don’t even have to leave out puppy pads for him. Relatively accident free. I wake up a couple of times a night to take him out… I have been cautiously listening for him to fidget or wake in the night… [...]

  • david wrote a new blog post: Puppy Training Sheet…   4 months, 3 weeks ago · View

ThumbnailI made some puppy training sheet to hang on our fridge, to help in the puppy housebreaking process. I am going to laminate the paper, and use small round button magnets to hold the numbers / markers in place. The round puppy paw prints are going to be glued to the tops of the button magnets, [...]

ThumbnailThe Duke of Poop has arrived. What a cutie. So far, he has proven himself to be an incredible eater and drinker – I have been blown away by his appetite and the amount of water he will drink down in a sitting. Along with those comes pooping and peeing – and he has a 100% [...]

  • david wrote a new blog post: The promise of energy for (next to) nothing: E-CAT   7 months ago · View

I am being drawn like a moth to a flame about reports surrounding the E-Cat (Energy Catalyzer), which is a Low Energy Nuclear Reactor, but is often labelled as a Cold Fusion device by the few reports I have seen. I want to believe , but find myself waiting for the punch-line. Something along the lines of [...]

  • david wrote a new blog post: Some Apple Nostalgia – in memory of Steve Jobs   7 months, 3 weeks ago · View

Thank you Steve Jobs. You have had a tremendous impact on my life. I still remember the Christmas when Apple entered my life, in the form of an Apple IIe. I remember the game with the rabbit in a maze, and using the arrow keys to get the rabbit to the carrot (part of the [...]

Amazing views, wonderful people. Incredible food. Hayley and I ate pheasant and venison last night, both of which were hunted by the proprietor of the restaurant. I found two small bits of birdshot (lead) in my dinner – proof positive that the bird was indeed shot down (rather than farm raised).

Anytime I move, I dread the inevitable trip to the local DMV, or equivolent governing body tjat has been put in place. A radio DJ in New Jersey used to refer to the car as the cash cow. Anytime finds were low, they would come up with a new scheme to milk money out of car owners. Many Jersey towns would hire more police when budgets got tough – as tje police were not considered to be an expense.on their budgets, but instead a guaranteed source of revenue. I naturally have developed a negative view of governments dealings with private automobile
Perhaps worse are the huge lines, long waits, and lack of quality information available at th DMV (I’m looking at you again NJ). The VW bus has arrived in London – so a new process woptj a

ThumbnailI ran into this clip from David Mitchell, which does a good job expressing a perspective on Global Climate Change that I share, but have been unable to express as eloquently: Also, this cartoon seems to sum things up nicely as well: It doesn’t matter if you can find someone, somewhere, who says it isn’t going [...]

Thumbnail I went out yesterday to Pudding Mill Lane, to an overlook area where you can see the progress on the London 2012 Olympics construction. Of particular interest to me is a public artwork called “ArcelorMittal Orbit” (although the locals are already referring to it as “Orbit” – dropping the reference to the ArcelorMittal steel company [...]
